Occupy Edmonton Lives to See Another Sunrise from Downtown Camp
Edmonton, AB – Over 200 people stood and cheered as the 11:00 eviction deadline given to ‘Occupy Edmonton’ by Melcor Development Corporation came and went. The occupation remains in place as Occupy Edmonton awaits a response from the company.
The Occupy Edmonton camp, located at 102 street and Jasper Ave. wrote a response letter to the company to hopefully address their concerns while clarifying the reasons for the downtown occupation. The letter can be viewed at http://occupyedmonton.org/?p=3
The camp has received widespread community and public support, donations come in daily, and online the group now has over 3,800 likes to support the concerns of the Edmonton arm of the global ‘Occupy’ movement. The camp has also received praise from Police and security officials who have highlighted the peaceful and respectful nature of the occupation, and many passers-by have commented that this is the cleanest they have seen the park, and one of the first times the park has been used for the public good.
The Occupy Edmonton group is concerned about how corporate interests are infecting our political institutions, dictating public policy and decimating the environment. They are also concerned about a system that puts the hunger for profits above the health and well being of all our communities.
Occupy Edmonton is united with groups and movements around the world that want a system that works for, not against, the 99% of us.
