EDMONTON – Occupy Edmonton protesters are being allowed to remain in a downtown park.

Protest organizer Chelsea Taylor says the company that owns the space had threatened to evict them but changed its mind.

The group plans to stay in the park off Jasper Avenue as long as people show up.

About 50 protesters are regularly at the site but not all are sleeping overnight in tents.

Taylor says she plans to ask city hall if the protesters can set up a fire pit to keep warm.

The demonstration is one of many around the globe sparked by last month’s Occupy Wall Street movement denouncing corporate greed and economic inequality.
