This Wednesday, Occupy Edmonton will join with students, faculty, support staff, contract workers and service workers from the University of Alberta and other post-secondary learning institutions across Canada in a national day of action to oppose continued tuition fee increases and to promote pay equality across the board. The day will also mark a new day of occupation. Occupy Edmonton plans to set-up tents at the U of A. This will be the first full day of occupation since the group was evicted from a 43 day occupation of Melcor Park in Edmonton’s downtown core.
The event will begin with a march starting at Ezio Faraone Park at noon on Wednesday, February 1st 2012. The group will march from there to the Quad at the University of Alberta where they will begin the new occupation. The occupation will focus on the increasing corporatization of education, and rising tuition rates and debt levels. The rally at the Quad will start at 2PM in solidarity with University of Alberta students and staff.
